As a NASM certified personal trainer and a certified physical and health education teacher, I have a different approach to fitness for women that goes against the status quo, especially in the Afro Latina/Caribbean space. Instead of focusing on losing weight, eating very few calories, and obsessing over the scale, I see fitness as a tool for women to build confidence.

I’m back with another refreshing drink inspired by the Caribbean! But unlike my Morir Soñando recipe from my last post, today we’re blending two worlds—the bold citrus flavors of the Dominican Republic and the earthy richness of Japanese matcha.

Now, let’s talk about matcha real quick. Everybody and their abuela (grandma) is trying to ride the matcha wave lately, but I’ve been drinking matcha for years now! It’s an amazing ingredient, but I won’t lie—it’s an acquired taste. That earthy, slightly bitter flavor can be a hit or miss for some people. If your first experience with matcha was meh, this Matcha Limeade might just redeem it for you! The bright citrus flavors and a touch of vanilla balance out matcha’s natural grassy notes, making this the perfect gateway drink to its deliciousness. Una vaina ratataaaaaa.

?✨ Matcha Limeade Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp matcha powder (ceremonial or culinary grade)
  • 1 lime & 1 lemon (juiced)
  • 1.5 tbsp agave syrup (or more to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup ice

Matcha Limeade Recipe

  1. Prepare the matcha – In a small bowl, whisk matcha powder with ½ cup of warm water until smooth and frothy. (Use a matcha whisk or electric handheld whisk.)
  2. Mix the citrus – In a separate glass, combine the juice of 1 lime and 1 lemon with agave syrup and vanilla extract. Stir well to dissolve.
    • I recommend using room temperature water to make sure the syrup fully dissolves.
  3. Combine & serve – Pour the matcha into the citrus mixture, add the remaining water and ice, and stir. Serve in a tall glass over ice and garnish with a lime wheel for that tropical vibe and ✨enjoy!✨
